D Home featured an image I shot for the Lotus Shop at the Crow Collection of Asian Art in it’s recent Decade of Dallas Design issue. The vase is Vellum New York’s modern take on an 18th century chinoiserie pattern.

I shot these earlier this year for a story on the demise of the traditional publishing industry in American Way Magazine. I was describing the image at an agency showing this week – from my iPad. In keeping with the article, I recently tossed all of my printed portfolios in favor of an iPad. It’s cheaper than a printed book, it’s easier to mail and a lot more fun for an art director/art buyer to play with for a week.

This year’s Lotus Shop catalog from the Crow Collection of Asian Art is about half complete. Here’s an unretouched sneak peek of Richard Tsao’s new line. The rest of the day was spent shooting on a 24-foot temporary runway constructed in the studio. Really beautiful imagery. Keep an eye out for the rest of the images and the final catalog in May.

A friend and client is a member of the Dallas Diablos (rugby team). Last week he approached me with a poster and ad project to promote their annual fundraiser where they auction off each of the players along with a gift “package”. Wink. A few of the guys showed up on Tuesday with uniform and accessories in tow… Here’s the outcome. Tazz’s scooter never looked so good.
By the way, a maul occurs when the player with the ball is wrapped up, but not taken to the ground and players from both sides bind together to push the ball forward. Now you too know what a maul is.

All of our fingers hurt after this one. 125+ real employees + buildings, greenery, mountains, type and clouds printed, mounted and cut to fit into a 16×4′ winter scene. Most of the lighting was done in miniature (LED, christmas lights, flashlights…). Mini gondolas never looked so good.

Launching American Way’s foray into conceptual covers, this was for a story about the burgeoning badminton scene in Miami Beach. Fun to see a tiny ocean and beach in the studio. Unfortunately, the miniature cruise ship was cut at the last minute.
