Annie Leibovitz, Thijs Wolzak, Christian Stoll (and me)

Slingshot

This Thursday I kicked off a series of lectures at local ad agency, Slingshot. British creative director Peter Wood (think original IMB Think Pad campaign) invited me to share some of my images as well as images that inspired me to start shooting in the first place. We also sprinkled in some personal pics from staff members for fun. Other than an iPad glitch (don’t present from iPhoto – use Keynote), it was an overwhelming success. The premise of my talk was that most of my best shots have come from being overly prepared prepared for the hero shot so as to leave time to experiment with the AD for a few hours. Almost without fail, the time spent experimenting nets a stronger image and builds a peer relationship with the AD that isn’t possible while running around at the last minute.

I’ll post the slideshow early next week for Slingshot and anyone else who is interested.

One of my favorite photographers

I would never trade my new photo/design life for my old design/design life, but I do miss shooting with different photographers. Over the years I’ve shot with some amazing photographers across the globe. Many have influenced my design, photography and certainly my scope of thinking. One of my favorites is Dutch photographer, Thijs Wolzak. Instead of giving my own voice over – take a minute to run through his site: www.wolzak.nl. We’ve worked on quite a few projects together – and toured a good number of America’s b-list cities…
